Section 1 – Joining the Airline
Lakefront Air allows anyone 13 or older to join. Lakefront Air allows our pilots to be from all skill level and from all over the world. It is highly recommended that all our pilots speak English fluently and are familiar with North American geography. Before you join you must agree to the Lakefront Air Terms of Service. To join simply click on “Join Today” located on the top menu bar.
Section 2 – Application Process
Almost every pilot who submits an application to Lakefront Air will be accepted. If you have previously left another virtual airline your hours may be transferred, if this section was filled out correctly on the application, if not, you may contact a staff member. Our staff members will review your application and in most cases you will be ready to fly in less than three days, please be patient while we review your application. If you do not get a welcome email within a week please contact a Lakefront Air staff member. Lakefront Air stresses the fact that our pilots are to always act in a mature and professional manor, if a pilot is seen acting nonprofessional or immature the pilot’s membership can and will be terminated. Lakefront Air provides a professional environment but at the same time we would like all our pilots to enjoy their experience. After your application has been approved you are ready to fly.
Section 3 – First Flight
Before even taking to the skies you will need to download our aircraft. To download the Lakefront Air aircraft please go to the Operations, located on the top menu bar, and then click on Fleet. Once on the fleet page, select the aircraft you wish to download and then select the appropriate simulator version to download. Please note that all pilots using FS2002 and below must contact the Fleet Manager/Chief Operations Officer for special instructions. After downloading the aircraft you will need to install it. Instructions for installing the aircraft are available within the download, if you need help please contact the Fleet Manager/Chief Operations Officer. The next step is selecting an appropriate Lakefront Air route. Lakefront Air is modeled after real-world operations therefore you must selected one of our routes. It is very important to note that although we offer a timetable you do not need to fly a scheduled flight. However you must fly a Lakefront Air route. If a pilot does not fly a Lakefront Air route his/her hours will not count. To view all of the Lakefront Air routes simply selected Routes from the Operations page. All routes on this page are coming and going from each appropriate hub, you do not need to fly to or from your assigned hub. If you need assistance learning how to use Flight Simulator please contact a Lakefront Air staff member. It is important that you record the following details of you flight: departure airport, arrival airport, length of flight, departure time, arrival time and aircraft type. This information will be used to record your hours. After completing a flight you will have to complete a Flight Form. The Flight Form page is located on the top menu bar. Please follow the steps on the Flight Form page to complete your flight form. To remain an active Lakefront Air member you must complete at least one flight every 30 days. In addition after acceptance you have 14 days to complete your initial flight. If you fail to fly for more than 30 days or to do fly within 14 days of acceptance your membership can and will be terminated. Before going to a staff member for help please use the tutorials located on your Flight Simulator.
Section 5 – Fleet
Lakefront Air’s fleet consists of the following aircraft: the Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Dehavilland Dash-8-100 and the Embraer ERJ-140KE. You can download these aircraft in the Fleet page, which is located under Operations and then Fleet on the website. All pilots using FS2002 and below must contact the Fleet Manager/Chief Operations Officer for special instructions. After downloading the aircraft you will need to install it, if you need help please contact the Fleet Manager/Chief Operations Officer. We currently have 66 aircraft in our fleet. Although Lakefront Air does not have textures for paywear aircraft, you are welcome to use any texture you would like on a paywear aircraft.
Section 6 – Flights
Lakefront Air operates out of three hubs in Omaha, Nebraska; Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Cleveland, Ohio. All Lakefront Air flights go to or from these three cities. Although you are not required to fly a scheduled flight, Lakefront Air offers a timetable with an assortment of scheduled flights. Pilots are more than welcome to add the extra challenge of keeping to a schedule by flying a scheduled flight. Our timetable can be found under Operations, located on the top menu bar, and then Timetable.
Section 7 – Pilot rankings and hours
For each Lakefront Air flight you complete you receive hours for that flight. All of the hours you have accumulated at Lakefront Air can be found on the Pilot Roster page, located under Operations and then Pilot Roster. We currently have four different ranks within Lakefront Air; Trainee, First Officer, Captain and Senior Captain. As you gain more hours you will move up in rank. A complete listing of the number of hours to achieve each rank can be found on the Pilot Roster. All Lakefront Air aircraft are open to all pilots of all ranks.
Section 8 – Communication
At Lakefront Air we like to keep our strong community together. We do this by using various communications systems. We use a Twitter for quick updates on things going on at Lakefront Air. The link to the Twitter is available on the Home page of the website. You can find our Forum on the right side menu bar on the home page. Although forum participation is optional, you are welcome to register for the Lakefront Air Virtual forums using your first and last name (such as John Smith) as your user-name. We also use Skype for a communication system. If you are unaware of Skype please go to their website at www.skype.com. The quickest and easiest way to contact any staff member is to use the Contact Us page located on the home page.
